Castlevania

Who else is ready to dive back into the world of Dracula? From the iconic NES classics to the modern Symphony of the Night and the recent Netflix adaptation, Castlevania has defined the “Metroidvania” genre for decades.

What makes this franchise so enduring? Is it the gothic atmosphere, the punishing difficulty, or the tragic lore surrounding the Belmont clan? I’ve been replaying SotN recently, and the sheer depth of its map design still holds up perfectly against modern standards. The music by Michiru Yamane is also legendary—pure nostalgia.

I’m curious to hear everyone’s favorites:

  • Which game in the series do you consider the peak?
  • Who is your favorite boss fight?
  • Are you Team Belmont, Team Richter, or Team Alucard?

Let’s discuss the legacy of the whip, the power of the holy water, and why we keep coming back to the castle. No spoilers for the newer titles, please!

The original NES classic still holds up as a masterpiece of atmosphere and level design.

Symphony of the Night redefined the genre with its RPG elements and sprawling map. A must-play.

I prefer the gothic horror vibe of the early games over the more action-heavy later entries.

Dracula’s Curse introduced the whip and the iconic family dynamic that defined the series for decades.

If you haven’t played Harmony of Despair, you’re missing out on a fantastic co-op experience.

The recent announcement of Castlevania: Dominus has me hyped to see how they modernize the formula.
